SONGS WITH SOUND

Some of the most meaningful songs aren’t songs at all. They’re the quiet, ordinary sounds that surround us every day.

So a Song with a Sound? I’m talking about the subtle soundtrack of life itself.

My advice when reading this JOURNALISTIC analysis, is to simultaneously listen to the song to get the full experience.

the sound of life

When we think about music, we often imagine something carefully produced with vibrant melodies, layered instruments, powerful vocals, and captivating lyrics designed to capture attention. As creators and artists, there can be pressure to make something big, something loud, and impactful enough to reach people. But there’s another kind of music that exists long before any studio recording or maybe even an instrument - the music of the world around us.

Life has its own rhythm

The descending hum of a plane as it prepares to land.
Or the rain trickling down a windows, at different rhthyms and different cadences.
The distant roll of thunder, both unsettling and powerful.
Or the passionate waves, rushing forward and fall back into the sea, clapping against the shore in polyphonic rhythms, like an audience breaking into applause.

Even silence has a presence. The calmness of nothing is still a sound—a space where the world breathes quietly.

The soundtracks

In cities, the soundtrack continues in different forms. The sound of chatter drawing you into different world. The soft mechanical voice on the tube announcing the next stop. The subtle rumble of the train beneath your feet. The gentle reassurance that you’re arriving somewhere familiar, somewhere close to home. These sounds guide our days without demanding our attention, yet they shape our moods and movements just as much as any piece of music.

music doesn’t always need to be created

A minimalistic sound will make you want to follow it. A subtle sound demands your attention to listen more carefully, and with that, every environment has its own composition, its own tempo and texture, unfolding naturally around us.

The Sound of being here

Some people might find this perspective strange, but for me it’s grounding. Paying attention to these everyday sounds reconnects me with the present moment. It reminds me that I’m part of the world, moving through its rhythms just like everything else.

Sometimes the most beautiful music isn’t something we write or produce.

Sometimes it’s simply the sound of being here.

Songs with everyday sound - Recommendations

So give real life a go, or better yet, listen to how these two song use external sounds to shape the song, how the melody actually flows with real life sounds itself. I mean, what better way to convey a theme than to feel it, hear it and experience it.
